Community Spotlight: Renée

Renée has one of the most unique jobs in the neighborhood: keeping a beloved brewery running smoothly. As the Senior Operations Manager at Angel City, she is in charge of both back-of-house and front-of-house operations. Her day-to-day responsibilities include checking on inventory, managing procurement, and profit & loss analysis at Angel City and across eight other Boston Beer locations across the country.
Originally hailing from Burlington, Vermont, Renée moved to Washington, D.C. to get her start in the beverage industry by selling beer. After a few years, she had the opportunity to move west and work in Los Angeles, but her love for D.C. made her hesitant.
However, as soon as Renée stepped into the Angel City space, she instantly fell in love. The energy in the room drew her in and filled her with inspiration. She knew she wanted to be a part of it. In the summer of 2013, Renée took the job and has been at Angel City ever since. Her favorite part of her work is the people.

”I love how much we have grown. At the beginning, it was like a startup and we were all trying to figure it out together. More than half of the staff here have been at Angel City for at least a decade. I’m really proud of us and it’s such a great group of people that care about each other.”
Angel City is also where Renée met her husband, Alex, a colleague. In 2019, they celebrated their wedding on top of Angel City with 130 people, overlooking the skyline of Downtown and the Arts District. That day, the flagpole hoisted the California and Vermont state flags in celebration of their love.

The roof is an oasis for the Angel City staff, where Ray, the resident expert gardener, cultivates hops, blackberries, and pomegranates in the blazing sun. To this day, the roof is Renée’s favorite place in all of Los Angeles.
Renée’s preferred beer is the very classic Angel City IPA. Her favorite event at the brewery is Avocadofest, where she was seen in her festive avocado tights.
In her free time, Renée enjoys attending baseball games and visiting ballparks around the country. She and Alex are avid train travelers and are big proponents of public transportation. She believes that Los Angeles is an underrated food city and would like to see more public art in the neighborhood.
”I think art brings people together and if it’s out there, people will respect it. It brings commentary and discussion. We owe ourselves more free, public art.”
