Community Spotlight: Jeremy

Most people don’t think about the journey their turkey makes from the farm to their Thanksgiving table. Yet, food travels through a complex food supply chain that involves different stages of production and distribution. Luckily, Jeremy Corselli works tirelessly in the distribution stage of the network, specifically in food preservation.

Nearly four decades ago, Jeremy got his start as an eager intern learning the ins and outs of mechanical refrigeration. His career led him to Rancho Cold Storage, a family-owned facility that had been operating since 1895. Jeremy was hired to tackle the ambitious challenge of modernizing a century-old operation.

Over the next twenty years, Jeremy led the transformation of Rancho Cold Storage. He oversaw the installation of energy-efficient equipment and advanced insulation, introduced computerized systems and helped grow the business. Today, he is serving as the Vice President of Operations and Engineering.

In his day-to-day, Jeremy keeps a network of large industrial freezers powered around the clock. It’s hard work, but he takes pride in making sure meals stay fresh. As families gather around their Thanksgiving tables this year, Jeremy hopes they’ll pause to appreciate the food and the people who work to ensure their food is delivered.

After having spent decades in the Arts District, Jeremy has seen the neighborhood transform in ways few others have. He has witnessed blocks of blighted industrial properties become vibrant areas of creativity and community.

“I remembered having to carry a gun with me, just so I could safely make it from my car to the office,” Jeremy recalls.

“Today, the Arts District is a beautiful, eclectic neighborhood. There are commercial facets and entertainment facets,” Jeremy says. He feels a deep sense of gratitude for having been a part of the Art District’s evolution and for the community that has embraced the presence of a cold storage business, coexisting amidst premier restaurants and galleries.

With pride, Jeremy hopes more people will discover the unique charm that the area possesses. “I would like more people to see what a gem of an area we have.”

Jeremy’s favorite thing to do in the neighborhood is having a meal at Manuela and then going to the outdoor garden to see the chicken coop afterwards. His favorite landmark in the neighborhood is the 6th Street Viaduct, which he crosses every day to get to work.
