What We Do
The Arts District Los Angeles is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to serving artists, businesses and residents in the district. Our primary objective is to enhance the well being of residents, artists and businesses in the Arts District community.
BID Overview
The Arts District is a fiercely original, urban neighborhood, situated on the eastside of Downtown, boarded by the Los Angeles River and walking distance to Union Station and City Hall. The district is home to galleries, restaurants, creative office space, live/work lofts and upscale condos with a hip urban vibe. The streets are rich in character as local street artists have turned building walls into canvases showcasing their artwork.
Many of the neighborhood’s business establishments are tucked into early 20th century warehouses and former factories. Institutions like the Hauser and Wirth Gallery, the Southern California Institute of Architecture and the Los Angeles Clean Technology Incubator help give the Arts District its distinct character. With several public and private projects under construction and many more in the planning stages, the Arts District is quickly becoming the regional center of housing, employment, and culture.

The Business Improvement District
A Business Improvement District (BID) is a formally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in a defined region. BIDs vary in the supplemental services they provide, such as public safety, maintenance, marketing, and capital improvements. The efforts are funded by a special assessment paid by the property owners in the district. A BID is a public/private partnership, which allows governing bodies and property/business owners to unite in a collective effort for the maintenance, development, and promotion of their commercial district.
About the Arts District BID
The Arts District Los Angeles Business Improvement District (ADLA) works tirelessly to ensure the neighborhood is clean, safe and ever improving. Reestablished in 2014, the Arts District BID is a 501(c) 3 non-profit managed by the Arts District Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is made up of large, medium and small property owners and community stakeholders. ADLA’s full-time staff manages the day-to-day operations of ADLA’s initiatives and programs.
The primary function of ADLA is to keep the neighborhood clean and safe. The ADLA Executive Director—Miguel Vargas–works closely with the City to implement the Arts District Los Angeles Management plan.
Essentially bounded by the 101 Freeway, 7th Street, Alameda, and the Los Angeles River, the Arts District is home to the Sixth Street Viaduct, Joel Bloom square, 3rd & Traction, the Factory Place complex and is adjacent to the Metro’s Gold Line Regional Connector Station and Union Station. The ADLA safety Team patrols 24 hours a day, seven days a week while ADLA’s Clean Team provides street maintenance services on a daily basis during business hours.
Safety Team
The Arts District Los Angeles (ADLA) Safety Team is responsible for improving neighborhood safety throughout the district boundaries. Our Safety Team supplements the work of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) by being the eyes and ears of the community. Our team proudly patrols the neighborhood 24 hours a day, seven days a week by foot, bike and vehicle.
The Safety Team provides the following services:
- Safety patrols
- Public assistance
- Crime prevention
- Outreach to homeless individuals
- Personal safety escorts
- Business contacts
- Quality of life interactions
- Intervention in nuisance activities

Clean Team
The Arts District Los Angeles (ADLA) Clean Team focuses on improving neighborhood cleanliness throughout the district. Our Clean Team works diligently, seven days a week to keep the public space spotless and welcoming. ADLA contracts with Chrysalis for its street maintenance services.
The Clean Team provides the following services:
- Community beautification
- Sidewalk and gutter sweeping
- Servicing trash receptacles
- Tree well cleaning
- Trash removal
- Pressure washing
- Graffiti/stickers/handbill removal
- Weed removal
- Public assistance
